A PREFERRED YEAR
Author: Keith Wayne, CEO
The continued Pursuit of Excellence at Wayne Brothers has been a passionate part of our Purpose Statement since our inception. That pursuit led us, more than ten years ago, to form a wholesale material supply business built by builders who saw a better way to deliver. From day one, the goal was simple: stock what works, move with urgency, and support the people in the field who are under pressure to perform.
As the business grew, we expanded further by bringing rental equipment, trucking, and logistics under internal control. Today, Preferred Supply focuses on the core needs of active jobsites with construction supplies, construction equipment offered through lease or financing options, aggregates and hauling, and specialty materials such as fibers. This focus reflects how projects are actually built and allows us to be a dependable partner across multiple points of need.

Why Specialty Equipment Foundations Create Hidden Risk on Industrial Projects and How to Manage It
Authors: Chad Hensley, PE, EVP Concrete Group (Wayne Brothers) and Joseph Wickline, PE, President (Southern Engineering Company)
Equipment foundations often introduce more schedule and construction risk than typical building foundations, especially on industrial projects in operating facilities. In this two-part series, we explore why these risks occur and how to manage them.
Incomplete Equipment Information Drives Risky Early Assumptions
Equipment foundations can vary from simple mat slabs to deep, complex multi-staged installations. They often include embedded plates, angles, anchor bolts with tight tolerances, recesses, ledges along with flatness and levelness requirements that exceed what is required for other types of foundations.
One common issue is the lack of necessary information about the equipment at the onset of design.

Heavy Equipment Foundation
We are currently delivering a turnkey heavy-equipment foundation inside an active facility. Our scope includes demolition, excavation, engineering, and concrete. The project was designed and is being installed by our team.
✔ Removed 3-inch steel plates and concrete up to five feet thick, navigating around existing building foundations.
✔ Cut a 20-foot-deep excavation supported by four lifts of soil nails and shotcrete.
✔ Fabricated the embeds in our Mid-South Operations Center
✔Using one-sided wall forms and heavy shoring systems for the walls and elevated deck.
Lots of pre-planning and close coordination with facility operations is critical for work like this.
