Wayne Brothers Inc. was awarded the Virginia Chapter 2013 ACI Commonwealth Award for Excellence in Concrete work completed at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University Center of the Arts project located in Blacksburg, Virginia. Concrete was a major construction element of the 147,000 square foot center. Projects selected by the ACI represent the best concept, originality and application of concrete in construction projects. The project also reflected the advancement of knowledge and practices in the field of concrete. Recipients included: Owner- Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University, Blacksburg, VA; Architect- Snohetta, New York, NY; Structural Engineer- STV Group, Inc., Dougasville, PA; Civil Engineering- Thompson & Litton, Radford, VA; Construction Manager at Risk- Holder Construction Compamy, Atlanta, GA; Concrete Contractor- Wayne Brothers, Inc. Kannapolis, NC; and Concrete Supplier- Chandler Concrete, Christiansburg, VA. The awards were presented at the Virginia Concrete Conferance, March 6, 2014. Bobby Phillips, a Virginia Tech Alumni, and Scott Ashworth, WBI’s Superintendent for the project, accepted the award on behalf of Wayne Brothers.
