Scope of Work
Wayne Brothers’ Sitework team was awarded the expansion package for the UNC Charlotte Football Stadium. This was an upfit to the university’s existing stadium which Wayne Brothers had originally helped build from 2011-2012. Our scope included demolition, underground utilities (sanitary sewer, water, and storm drainage), and construction of a laydown area and crane pad to support the expansion. The stadium remained an active venue, so our work had to fit within the university’s football calendar from day one.
Unique Challenges
Our crews worked in a tight work area with limited room to maneuver, alongside concrete, steel, electrical, and gas company crews. Working around other subcontractors on site meant our team relied on constant communication and schedule coordination to keep every crew moving. Certain areas also had to be completed and temporarily turned over in time for football season, so meeting commitments was critical. Detailed planning and sequencing up front kept the work on track and allowed us to hit those turnover dates.
