Scope of Work
Wayne Brothers’ Concrete group completed a one-of-a-kind foundation project in Goose Creek, SC — only the second of its kind in the world, with the first located in Norway. The structure serves as a massive spool used to wind high-voltage cables onto ships. Through extensive value engineering and innovative formwork practices, Wayne Brothers delivered a high-quality foundation on an accelerated schedule.
Unique Challenges
The sheer scale and design of this circular foundation required creative solutions to meet demanding deadlines and strict quality standards. The 150-foot-diameter foundation incorporated unique design elements, including sections that required extruded foam to achieve specific structural requirements. To maintain the schedule, the team used single-sided formwork without ties and implemented an internal process known as Form Work Cycling to streamline operations. These methods reduced construction time while ensuring precise placement and finish. Completing such a specialized structure in only 45 days demonstrates Wayne Brothers’ ability to plan, adapt, and deliver exceptional results on complex projects.
