Scope of Work
Wayne Brothers delivered the Geostructural, Sitework + Utilities, and Concrete scopes for the $33M renovation of the American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, NC— home of the Charlotte Independence professional soccer team. Our Geostructural team installed drilled shaft foundations to support the scoreboard, selected to minimize the concrete cap footprint within tight site constraints. sitework scopes included excavation and grading for a new FIFA-certified field, installation of greenways and site utilities, roadway and curb improvements, and construction of a cast-in-place stormwater culvert. The Concrete scope covered foundations, CIP retaining walls and elevator towers, seating bowl, concourse paving, and decorative concrete finishes throughout the stadium.
Unique Challenges
This project presented multiple infrastructure challenges in a high-profile urban environment. We replaced 470 feet of an active underground culvert originally built in 1936—without disrupting its function. We also installed 1,250 feet of new public sanitary sewer while navigating around a 20-inch critical supply water line. Perhaps most impressively, we achieved subgrade tolerances within a tenth of an inch to meet strict FIFA standards for the playing field.
