Scope of Work
Wayne Brothers performed the Geostructural, Sitework, and Concrete scopes for this mixed-use development in Uptown Charlotte. The Geostructural Solutions group designed and installed a temporary earth retention system using soil nails, made possible through permanent easements and encroachment permits we helped secure with the client and owner. Our sitework team excavated and exported 20,000 cubic yards of brownfield material in just 5 days—no small feat in the middle of a busy urban environment. The scope also included backfill, underground utilities, sidewalks, curb & gutter, and roadway improvements. Our Concrete team placed over 70,000 SF of shored decks across four levels, and an additional 15,000 SF footprint for five more levels above.
Unique Challenges
Tight, curb-to-curb site conditions in Uptown Charlotte required extensive preplanning and coordination. To make soil nailing viable, we worked with our client and the owner to secure permanent easements on an adjacent property and encroachment permits for the roadway. Additionally, we coordinated closely with electrical and mechanical contractors to ensure conduit systems could be integrated within the soil nail wall footprint. The ability to deliver three scopes under one contract simplified project coordination and added value for the client.
