Wayne Brothers was awarded the fermentation tank structure for a new brewery in Columbia, SC. This brewery will be one of the largest breweries built in the United States in over 25 years. Our project scope consisted of a cast in place tank structure that needed to be built in 90 days so that the remaining building structure could be completed on time.
The foundation for the tank structure consisted of a 48” mat slab with 3400 cubic yards of concrete placed in one continuous pour over a 19 hour period. There were 43 cast in place concrete columns supporting the upper tank structure varying in size from 44” -50” square. The fermentation tanks are supported by the conventionally reinforced elevated concrete slab with circular openings cast in for each tank.
The upper structure was formed with Doka Staxo shoring and Dokamatic tables to meet the aggressive pour schedule. The upper structure was also placed in one continuous 15 hour pour and consisted of 2500 cubic yards and 650 tons of reinforcing steel.
We also performed rigging equipment and process & utility piping for several OEMs. We installed piping to (4) Can lines and (1) Bottling line. In addition to the production lines, we also installed a R&D brewing system to help the manufacture produce new products.
