Scope of Work

Wayne Brothers performed the cast-in-place concrete scope for a global biomanufacturing hub in Wake County, NC—the largest end-to-end cell culture biopharmaceutical CDMO facility in North America. Our scope included new construction and retrofit concrete foundations, walls, grade beams, slabs, equipment pads, and curbing across four buildings within the active campus. The work also included two 30-foot-deep waste pit structures containing mass concrete. We performed work on Phase 1 and 2. Phase 1 of this project earned the 2023 Eagle Award for Excellence in Concrete.

Unique Challenges

Two large waste pit structures occupied a major portion of the site, preventing other trades from starting until completion. Through collaborative planning and fast-tracked sequencing, our team cut the pit construction schedule in half to keep the project on track. Additional coordination was required as Phase 1 was already turned over and fully operational, demanding constant communication with our client and trade partners to maintain safe access and avoid disruption to ongoing operations.
